The Anubis Oracle

It’s A New Year

It is most definitely a new year! Here in the U.S. we have a new president, a new cabinet, and we are moving forward with what I consider dignity for the first time in more years than I want to count. Now we need to take this into our personal life.

It is too easy to be scared in time like these, when our whole world is being turned upside down. I heard on the news this morning that the elementary school that my brother and sister attended is scheduled to be closed. My high school fared better – it was closed for a year for total renovations, and is back with a new focus.

These are the questions that I asked myself coming into this year. Each individual needs to come up with their own questions, focused on their own life.

1. What is not working for me, and needs to be released from my life?
2. What steps can I take to release that which no longer works for me?
3. What is working in my life?
4. How can I nurture that which is working in my life?
5. What are my goals for 2009?
6. What steps can I take to reach these goals?
7. What is good physical health for me?
8. What steps can I take to maintain my physical health?
9. What is good mental health for me?
10. What steps can I take to maintain my mental health?
11. What is good emotional health for me?
12. What steps can I take to maintain my emotional health?
13. What is good spiritual health for me?
14. What steps can I take to maintain good spiritual health?
15. How can I maintain a balance between the spiritual and the mundane in my life?
16. What place does Tarot have in my life at this time?
17. How can I nurture my Tarot connections?

One way in which we can help to create a stronger Tarot world is to decide within ourselves what place Tarot has in our life. The place that Tarot has in my life is an evolving one, which I think is probably true for most people. There are so many ways to work with the Tarot – reading, writing, teaching, ritual, personal journey work – the list is endless.

Decide what you want to do – and then take the steps to do it. Ask questions – lots of questions. Read blogs – write blogs! Know that Tarot is the most wonderful support system in the world!

Bonnie's Books

The Power Of Now - A Guide To Spiritual Enlightenment
Author: Eckhart Tolle
Namaste Publishing
1997
ISBN #978-57731-152-2

I read Tolle's books in reverse order - thanks to Oprah! - soI came to The Power Of Now after I read (and studied) A New Earth. That Tolle is a truly great person is evident from the very first page. And he would be the first to tell you that this is NOT how you should think of him.

In this book Tolle gifts us with the ability to understand why we need to do one simple thing - to stay in the present, in the now, in our lives - and that this will liberate us from both our past and our future.

Tolle spends a great deal of time discussing what he terms our "pain body" - how we can recognize it, and ho we can release it, so that it does not run our life.

If you want to be the best person that you can be - this book is the book for you.

A New Earth - Awakening to Your Life's Purpose
Author: Eckhart Tolle
Dutton
2005
ISBN #0-525-94802-3

Eckhart Tolle is an absolutely amazing person! His work came to me thanks to my good friend Bev Concepcion, who gave me the heads up that Oprah was doing a skype cast on his his book "A New Earth". This very humble man is making a tremendous difference in many people's lives. "A New Earth" is a template for living - and for developing an entirely new way of looking at ourselves.

We move away from ego consciousness, and into living in the present. This man is very good at getting us to stop and take a good look at ourselves, to see how we have helped to create our current way of being, and what we can do to create a more peaceful, joyful consciousness.

He talks about what he terms our pain bodies, and how they can take over our lives. He teaches us to recognize them, and how to move beyond them. This is a must have book for anyone who is doing work on themselves.

Doomed Queens - Royal Women Who Met Bad Ends From Cleopatra to Princess Di
Author: Kris Waldherr
Broadway Books
2008
ISBN #978-0-7679-2809-1

We all know Kris Waldherr as an artist/author extraordinaire (The Goddess Tarot, The Book of Goddesses, The Lover's Path), and this project carries all of the qualities that we have come to expect from her. The artwork on the cover is magickal, the material well researched, and presented in a manner that is appealing and bitingly funny.

The story that represents each queen reflects the political, religious, an patriarchal nature of their times. It also shows us women with a surprising amount of backbone (and sometimes lack of sense!). At the end of each presentation Waldherr gifts us with a "Cautionary Moral". For instance, for Princess Diana, someone who is very much of our time, the cautionary moral is "Avoid men with cameras and Camillas." A bit of a bite there, but also true!

The front and back covers both have a ear out section that contains the forms of three "paper doll" queens that can be cut out and placed against background that is available for download from the "Doomed Queens" Internet site.

This may well be, as the promotion on the book flap indicates, a macabre tribute to the dark side of female empowerment, but it is also funny, an certainly food for thought.

Courageous Dreaming - How Shamans Dream The World Into Being

Author: Alberto Villoldo, Ph.D.
Hay House
2008
ISBN #978-1-4019-1756-2

This is not just a book about dreaming and dreamtime, but a book that is based on the thought that waking time is the dream, and that dreamtime is where we create our life. We can choose to live our lives from a place of empowerment, or we can live them from a place of limitation.

Villoldo (a psychologist, medical anthropologist, founder of the Biological Self-Regulation Laboratory at San Francisco State University, and a director of the Four Winds Society) speaks in terms that everyone can understand. He illustrates his work with his personal stories, and those of his friends and clients. These stories act as examples of how given archetypes work in real life.

The aim of this book is that the reader walk the path of dreaming their own world - in a manner that is filled with power and grace. Villoldo tells the story of the shaman that told him that he could either have what he wanted, or the reasons why he can't. How many of us hold onto thoughts such as "I was unloved as a child, and that is why I am unable to love." You can have what you want, or you can have the reason why you cannot have what you want.

Villoldo asks the reader to release the symbols in their life, and choose to act instead. The reader needs to release his/her mental stories and dream a more empowering story into being. The reader needs to practice truth in their life, to clean up or river (life), so that we do not continue to attract the same toxic people and situations, and learn to live each day as if it is our last. To be totally present, and act totally responsible.

I found this book to be honest, humorous, and a gateway to a better way of being. A unique tool to add to our arsenal of empowerment.
